Blast from the past (See what I'm talking about)
In honor of Ike's barreling down on Houston being all over the news, I did a search of this very blog for our updates from when we lived in Houston and Rita was widely believed to represent impending doom.

Other than the first post at this link (they appear chronologically backwards, latest first), many, many are from our experience of Rita. Scroll about halfway down and start reading upwards to relive that exciting part of our lives, pre-C.

It seems that back then I was much more witty. Marriage will do that to a guy - suck the wit right out of him.

Just kidding, hon. You only gave me gray hair.

 I admit it...
...I'm not ready to wake up *that much earlier* to start snowblowing. Or warming up the car before I leave for work, or shoveling, or bundling up. But it was rainy, windy and cloudy today, and I have spent a good portion of the evening hunting down the best snowboarding videos on YouTube. I'm getting ready for winter.

THIS year I'll get in shape and really kick butt up there... Really!

For your consideration:

..I have to do something here while D and C were able to enjoy a Cubs game today (in 85 degrees, while it was MAYBE 60 here), and are busy playing in Chicago with my family.

And I'll let Dana blog about Caroline's first word. You literally won't believe it. I didn't. But apparently she said it clear as day. (Enough of a teaser for you?)

In other news, the 'weight loss challenge' is over on Wednesday. I have a *feeling* I've won but only because Dave was handicapped with wedding stuff (and thus too much drinking) and Steve mentioned to Dave the other day that he's actually GAINED weight (though to his credit he has apparently been working out, and everyone knows that muscle weighs more than fat). I've done pretty well but have stayed at the same weight for over a week now. I plan on dehydrating myself with some wine tomorrow night (I was practicing for that particular effort this evening) before the 'official' weigh-in first thing Wednesday morning. And while I won't tell any of you what I weigh (a girl needs some secrets), I will announce my percentage loss - which is what the challenge is based on - after sharing the results with Dave and Steve Wednesday after my arrival.
